Robotics and Automation

Robots — programmable machines that perform tasks usually carried out by humans — once existed only in our imaginations and science fiction. But in the modern, digital world, robotics technology is all around us, and EC Electronics is dedicated to driving development in this area.

Over the last decade, robotics technology has become increasingly integrated with our day-to-day lives, sweeping through our homes, offices, hospitals, roads and factories to automate dangerous and repetitive tasks with unparalleled accuracy.

Although the manufacturing sector was one of the first to deploy robotics technology on a large scale, we are starting to see other sectors embracing its benefits — especially since the pandemic, which increased the demand for automation across the board. And as the internet of things (IoT) continues to improve digital connectivity, we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of what robotics and automation can achieve.

Forging the future

As the capabilities of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have expanded, so have the potential applications for industrial, collaborative and commercial robots.

Robots have already taken on several valuable functions — from filling labour gaps in the manufacturing sector to assisting surgeries in medical settings. With the popularity of these autonomous devices set to grow, we expect to see high investment volumes for robotics projects in the coming years.

However, designing and manufacturing robotics is no simple task. The next generation of robots will consist of increasingly complex electrical systems — especially as printed circuit boards (PCBs) and sensors continue to shrink. Still, due to the precise and often high-risk nature of many robotics applications, every component must perform at the highest level of safety, consistency and efficiency. So, before developing a robotics product of your own, it is crucial to choose an electronics manufacturer that can meet these requirements.

At EC Electronics, we know how to design and deliver electronics for the robotics sector that meet every expectation for precision and quality. Safety is built-in at every stage of our electronics development cycle, with every PCB assembly, cable assembly and box build completed to IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards of workmanship.

Additionally, our comprehensive quality management system (QMS) is certified to ISO9001 and ISO 14001 standards, along with EN ISO/IEC 80079-34:2018 certification in line with IECEx and ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU requirements. These accreditations provide the ultimate assurance for products designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, such as industrial sites.

By ensuring intrinsic safety and optimal performance, we hope to work with our customers to bring automation to new markets.
